Wanted
So there’s this guy who leads a boring life. He feels different from everyone else. He mysteriously gets brought into a secret organisation to learn that all is not as it seems in the world. For one thing, he is special. (read more…)

Step Brothers
I probably mentioned this before but I like R-rated comedies because a lot of the good stuff can’t be put in the trailer, as opposed to other comedies where half the film is in the trailer. So while the jist of this film’s story is obvious before you see it, it’s still funny to hear Will Ferrell telling John C. Reilly, “you’re a big, fat, curly-headed fuck!” (read more…)

The X-Files: I Want to Believe
As a huge X-Files fan who was expecting something impressive from this new film, I was left pretty disappointed. It’s not a bad film but I would’ve hoped they could pull off something better with the time afforded to writing the script and with the film shoot coming back to beautiful British Columbia. (read more…)

The Dark Knight
Chris Nolan can do no wrong. He’s already demonstrated his filmmaking genius with films like Memento and The Prestige and his take on the Batman series is a breath of fresh air to the superhero / action movie / comic book adaption genre. With ‘The Dark Knight’ he has even surpassed the brilliance of Batman Begins. (read more…)

The Love Guru
I’d love to say that this is the worst film I’ve ever seen but that wouldn’t be fair because I didn’t even manage to sit through the whole thing – it was that bad! In fact, it took just 12 minutes for me to become so depressed and suicidal that I started fast-forwarding through it. I’m so glad I didn’t pay a single penny to see this rubbish. (read more…)

Hancock
Not the type of film I’d usually bother with but with Peter Berg directing (Friday Night Lights, The Kingdom) and Vince Gilligan lending a hand to the writing (one of the best writers on The X-Files), I thought I’d give it a shot. (read more…)

Young People Fucking
Don’t freak out, the title of this film is a bit of a misnomer – not all of the people in it are that young. One of them is 31! This Canadian film intercuts five unrelated stories involving 11 people (yes, 11!) as we follow their exploits (sexploits?) over a period of one night. (read more…)

Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay
The sequel to ‘Harold & Kumar go to White Castle’ pretty much follows the format of the first one, only on a bigger scale. And that’s no bad thing. H&K2 is just as funny as the original. (read more…)

Shoot ‘Em Up
Wow, what an hilariously brilliant film this is! It’s an incredible, over-the-top, piss-take, self-deprecating, action movie that is equal parts exhilarating and funny. Clive Owen and Paul Giamatti are brilliant as the dry, uber-cool, caricatured hero and villain. (read more…)

The Counterfeiters
This is an Austrian film about a group of dudes put into a German concentration camp pre-WWII. They were hand picked specifically to implement a large counterfeiting operation designed to damage the economies of Germany’s enemies. (read more…)
