Semi-Pro

I’m a big fan of Will Ferrell but it gets tiring when he just keeps making the same film. In Semi-Pro he plays another outrageously larger-than-life character who yet again finds an excuse to take off his clothes (this time to fight a bear).

Ferrell is the owner/coach/player of a basketball team who have a chance to move the franchise into the NBA. The only problem is that they’re not good enough so they bring in an ageing pro (Woody Harrelson) to help them out. It’s pretty formulaic but I’m not really sure whether they were aiming for a parody or not. It comes off more as a straight comedy rather than anything more.

It’s quite hit and miss but there’s some funny stuff in it and it’s worth a watch. 4 crumbs out of 10.
