Half Nelson

Only watched this 2006 film today and had yet another “why am I only seeing this now?” moment. Ryan Gosling gives a great performance as a drug-addicted school teacher in Brooklyn, New York.

He uses unorthodox teaching methods to instill a love of history in his students and tries to be an inspiration to them. If that sounds like some boring clichéd bullshit then I agree but this film doesn’t go down that path. It’s much better than that and if you haven’t already, you should see it for yourself to know what I mean.

One of the best things about the film is the music. It all comes from Canadian band Broken Social Scene, mostly from their great album ‘You Forgot It In People’. The film gets 6 crumbs out of 10 from me.
