Eastern Promises
I generally expect something good from a David Cronenberg film and this one delivers in abundance. Set in London, Naomi Watts plays a hospital worker who becomes embroiled with a Russian mafia gang when she takes it upon herself to find answers about a young woman who died during childbirth.

Viggo Mortensen is brilliant as the mob driver who has aspirations of progressing further in the mafia family but has to balance his moral compass with proving his credentials to the bosses. There are similarities here with Cronenberg’s previous film ‘A History of Violence’, not least the graphic violence itself. If you liked one, you’ll like the other. 7 crumbs out of 10.
