It’s Snowing!!!

The first snow of the winter hit the Vancouver mainland as temperatures stayed under freezing all day. It was a pretty cool sight although the snow was quite light and is only expected to last until the morning when temperatures will rise again and we’ll get some lovely rain to turn the ground into slush. (By the way, what’s the story with those Slush Puppy drinks? What have puppies got to do with dirty ice and artificial fruit syrup? I never understood that. If anyone has any inside information, let me know please.)

Everywhere I went today, people just talked about the weather. “Some weather, isn’t it?” “Eh, yeah.” “Cold out there, isn’t it?” “Eh, yeah.” Please people, don’t speak to me about weather conditions. I never have anything to add to the conversation.

Snowing in Vancouver

I had to go to the bank today but when I got there the doors were closed and a nice gentleman was standing in front of them explaining that they had to shut temporarily as there had just been a robbery. I then realised that this was the reason the three police cars were parked outside. (I had initially thought there was a sale in the doughnut shop across the road! Har dee har har!) But back to the nice gentleman – he was handing out maps which highlighted the other branches of the bank in the city, which I thought was nice. In Ireland, after a bank robbery I’d expect to see a bit of yellow tape across the door, a couple of GardaĆ eating sandwiches and drinking tea and all the bank employees smoking outside while calling their solicitors looking to sue the bank for trauma.

As I walked to the next nearest branch, I was feeling disappointed that I hadn’t got there half an hour earlier so that I could’ve been involved. (As long as I wasn’t shot or tasered, that is.) Later in the day, I watched the local news to see if the robbery was mentioned. Nope, they just talked about the weather for 30 minutes!
