The Mist

Man, did I dislike this movie. Adapted from a Stephen King novel, it’s a typical horror formula – people from a small town get holed up somewhere while an unknown menace threatens from outside. Here the menace comes in the form of a large cloud of mist. Egawds! Ok well, there’s something in the mist. A big reptilian creature of some sort and lots of smaller ugly ones too.

Some of the CGI and effects were terrible. Most of the characters were one-dimensional plebians, especially the religious freakazoid. If I was locked in that supermarket with her I’d have stabbed an umbrella into a water melon and then clubbed her over the head many many times until it came clean off her torso. And that would have been within the first 15 minutes of her opening her stupid mouth. I understood the point of her character but surely she didn’t have to be so annoying.

I did admire the ending of the film, even if it was totally silly and nonsensical. Overall, not one of director Frank Darabont’s better adaptations. 3 crumbs out of 10.
